Interpersonal skills for PLAB 2 Exam / Part 2

Hello everyone, Here are the interpersonal skills for the PLAB 2 exam/part 2.

As you all know interpersonal skills are very important to pass the exam, I tried to arrange some handy phrases that you can use in the Plab 2 exam.

If a patient is worried about something like cancer.

Remember worried = concerned

You can say, I can say that you are concerned about cancer but is there any particular reason why.?

If a patient is worried about losing something like losing sight or losing a hand

Well, your worry is quite understandable. We will do whatever we can to make it better for you and there are some things that can be done for you. (if full recovery is not expected- you can add, although I am afraid a 100% recovery cannot be guaranteed.

If a patient says, Doctor am I going to die.?

I am sorry that you feel this way, well you are in good hands and we will do everything in our power to help you get better.

Psychosocial history phrases

You told me that you have had this condition or this problem for 6 months now, How is this affecting your life?

If effecting

This must be difficult for you and is this affecting your work?

If yes

Sounds like you are going through a difficult time, is it affecting your mood?

Then ask to grade the mood

If you want to Admit the patient and explain what happens next, you can follow this structure

We would like to keep you in the hospital as it is very important to treat this condition right away, is that alright with you?

I will ask my senior to come and see you and then we may need to do some further investigations to confirm the diagnosis (this condition).

Meanwhile, we can start you on (antibiotics/fluids/painkillers) through your veins, how does that sound?

If the symptoms don't improve, we can refer you to a specialist.

I hope this helps you guys. I will come up with some more phrases soon.

Keep practicing, Good luck.
